DSM Skateboarding
August 22nd, 2007
I met Gabe of www.dsmskateboarding.com at Skate South where they gather once a week or so.
This being my first time shooting any indoor low light sports, I didn’t do horrible but I didn’t do as well as I wanted to either. The poor and sparse lighting (rollerskating rinks usually only use their mood and disco lighting) didn’t help me capture action very well. I had to use compact strobe flashes to illuminate and freeze the action. I should have used more variety in lighting setups for better results. It was definitely more challenging than any shooting I’ve done before, a learning experience no doubt.

These pics are all bad ass dude, next time you go I’ll go with ya
Sounds good. If you’re willing to help, it would actually be great to have a voice activated light stand. “Move right, move left, zoom in flash head, zoom out flash,” etc. I just received my real radio slave triggers, so everything should work a little better now.
Bobby is tearing it up on the pink girl board… to bad he doesn’t have the matching hat, cuz I do. Great action pics.
Yeah he was awesome, very talented.
Great pix Nick. Can’t wait to see the Urby contest pix.
really dig the first one, well lit.
That picture is siiick Bobby. Nice. Oh yeah the top one.
For the crappy lighting Skate South has the pics look better this way. it looks good witt everything dark in the background. makes you focus on the skater. gives it character. as an amature photographer and skater my self.
good job and sick pics. cant wait to see the urby pics
