Tom and I went to the Woodland Cemerery near downtown Des Moines to scope out the awesome sights reported to exist here. Not being ones to spook easily, we went there around sundown. Be aware of their closing time, as the automatic gate will lock you in and you’ll have to resort to more creative methods to exit the grounds. Besides that, there’s not even enough light on the grounds to avoid tripping over the cold hands that persistently reach out of the ground towards your feet.

Many fancy mausoleums were scattered around the place.

Absolutely stunning set of images. Do you know how long Woodland has been full–i.e. closed to any new burials, except people who already own a lot there? 40-50 years.

Calmuse: Thanks. I wasn’t aware of the status of the cemetery. That’s really interesting.
Amy: Yes, it’s on MLK a block or two from Ingersol.

Visited Woodland on October 12th 2007, and must say sensed such sadness in this cemetary, not sure if it was because of the sinking stones, unmarked graves, or disarray of the stones but you can sense it as you walk through the cemetary. Also you can feel the presense of a “keeper” of the cemetary for sure ! Would be great to do a seance of some type there. Is there any clubs or groups to join of this type of thing in DesMoines ? I would join for sure !
